RE: Launched & Tested - Golf TSI
K53 in the real life is scary.
Worst experience I ever had was being a passenger in a car driven by a newly "qualified" driver who still applied the K53 method to the T. She drove an 1100 MkI Golf and we were travelling up a long, fairly straight piece of road with one lane in each direction(Heugh Rd in PE - Calypso should know it) and came up behind a slower moving truck. In preparation to overtake, she went through the whole mirror, blindspot, indicate, mirror, blindspot, etc. routine. Unfortunately, not being able to concentrate on everything at the same time, she had slowed down while doing her checking procedure and had fallen about 4-5 car lengths behind the truck. Satisfied that all was clear, she moved over to overtake the truck. In addition to having fallen behind the truck, she had also lost much of her forward momentum and was still in 4th gear. Unperturbed she continued the manouever and summoned the immense acceleration abilities of the 1100 Golf in 4th gear in an effort to (catch) pass the truck. I saw my life flash before my eyes as we slowly crept towards the truck in the face of fast approaching oncoming traffic. It was only by the grace of the oncoming traffic moving to the side of the road that we successfully passed the truck. And Arrive Alive would have me believe that "speed kills" |
