Could be as a result of the special colour, or simply a trait of that specific colour. You will find most VAG products to have hard clears with Audi blacks being especially tough Hammerhead

On the side, I would tape regardless as some products may stain trim. I doubt it was to prevent damage from the correction stage unless Mike has a bionic arm he isn't telling us about Bluebiggrin
