Mr GTi...

Can you do me a favour please? Take a quick lookie under the rear arch of your car on both sides for one of these things please:

It might be really squashed though... But just double check the rubber strips aint in there. Maybe check them fronts too.

Thanks

Those look like the transport supports for the suspension. They shouldn't be in there Bluebiggrin

RE: My GTi ..
Yup... But VW often forget them in and the OP seems to be riding a little high in the rear...

I actually spoke to a R32 owner after you called me a few days ago and told him to take them out his suspension. All he could say was "No wonder the ride is so rough" lol

RE: My GTi ..
Mr. Mo.

Usa a wax like collonite on the paint if you can. The reflex silver can be very dull but if you use a wax/polish process that will give you good flake then ur onto a winner.

You should see the flake and vibrance on ur MK5.

RE: My GTi ..
Those things on the suspension can lead to damage and hairline cracks. Apparently some S2000s were delivered like that and one guy in the UK got a brand new one coz of it

RE: My GTi ..
They are designed to stop the car from bouncing around on the back of the transporters during transport from JHB to Cape Town etc.

Part of the PDI procedure is to remove the tag on the mirror and remove the spacers. But sometimes it is missed... Often actually.

On the contrary, I recommend you go with a good synthetic sealant over a wax. Carnauba's often mute metallic flakes and limit the amount of clarity and reflectiveness which in turn limits depth.

From my understanding sealants form a smoother surface finish that reflects more light than a carnauba wax which leaves the surface alot rougher. A smoother surface allows more clarity and greater depth which ultimately results in more light reaching the metallic flakes. With the flake receiving more light it allows them to stand out further from the base coat and improve the flake 'pop'.

My 2c anyways...use it don't use it Bluebiggrin

RE: My GTi ..
In theory yes Dave I do agree.

But in practice I feel I must disagree as I have used Collonite on Reflex silver on a MK5 GTI and the flake is exceptional! I have never seen flake like that before.

Try a good sealant next time and compare the 2 if you haven't already. The differences may sometimes be subtle but we have always achieved better results (subjective and IMO) on lighter coloured cars with sealants over carnauba's Wink

Poorboys EX, JS or M-seal and Jeff's Werkstat (Prime & Acrylic Trigger). The Jeff's system is one of my favourites and lasts really well (probably one of the best we've used thus far) Wink

Stunning pictures there. Did you protect with Pete's 53 or 50/50 Concours paste wax?
