hi everyone Wavey

some of you may know me from the vw club bb, decided to finally stop being lazy and learn about detailing and start washing my car myself.

took the plunge and bought some goodies from CD so now im looking forward to learning new things on this forum about using these items

just started off with a clay kit, some pads, cloths and interior detailer
then pravin decided to give me a free dvd, now im budgeting for more stuff lol

i realised its gona get crazy and im ready to embrace it Bluebiggrin

will be asking lots of questions soon, just wana browse and see if my questions have already been answered before posting them

well its a diamond black citi golf

last glazed in 2007 and just normal bucket washing and taking it to the car wash which i wana kick myself for now when i see the swirls
contacted 2 guys about detailing again, ones prices was way too high (started at R1100) and the other decided not to reply to my emails so i said screw it, im sure i can do atleast half the job at a minute fraction of the price so let me get things done myself rather.

one thing that i would like to know is what causes water to collect in a complete layer on the roof after a wash, and after wiping with a chamois, water remains on the paint???

will a claying fix this

Hello! And welcome

A clay bar removes paint contamination, polish and wax. So technically the clay bar would make it worse I think?

It sounds like the layer of wax on the roof is depleted... So to solve that I would suggest a god claying and some good polish and wax/sealant.

Is your car that lovely metallic black?

I would also suggest a good claying, and then some wax.

The way that the water lies on your roof is typical of a non waxed paint surface, it should be back to making lovely beads of water right after that wax.
