The Silver Sabre and the detail of Awesomeness

The Silver Sabre and the detail of Awesomeness
So three months ago I got bitten by the detailing bug (aka kripstoe), and went a bit insane with ze purchase of many things to clean with. Amazingly handy-andy and sunlight were not amoungst said things.

The things:
Initial tools

Yes that is a shield polisher.
Yes I did buy it. No it was not for correction. Yes it was for applying polish. Mainly it was to alleviate the need for me to hand polish the oxidization off the entire car. The vibration on the thing make me feel that the hand polishing was maybe the better option. eina.
The end of the shield polisher discussion.

The car itself has never been detailed, never been resprayed, and the interior was cleaned using conventional methods up till now. It was mainly used as a long distance vehicle, and to be honest keeping it clean was not a top priority.

So that weekend dawned and the sun did not. Seriously it was the dullest most overcast weekend...but as the Dutch say: vok voord.

Saturday: Interior

Initial footwell
Footwell

Initial seat cover fuzz
The seat covers which were on the car since 1996 were removed due to old age. This is what they left behind. All in all I am sorry to see them go, they were made specifically for toyotas and fit perfectly. Most people did not know the car had seat covers on.

dust from roof lining under seat covers
Under the seat covers lots of fine red dust from when the roof lining pulled off (it has since been replaced) was ground into the seats.

Initial Carpet
Close up of the carpets and ingrained dirt.

I went out and hired a "rug master"...umm, not a porn flick as you might have initially thought, but this awesome ma-tchin that deep cleans carpets and upholstery. Its actually very very impressive. It was used to smack the living daylights out of the carpets and seats.

Progress Interior muck 2
This is what it pulled out.

In case you missed it. Yes that is all dirt.

Sunday: Exterior
Ok so sunday morning and we are all ready to tackle the exterior. I was a bit worried about rain / mist so photographs were a secondary concern.

Progress Taped
Taped. I love this tape!

Then I polished. And polished. And polished. And then it was dark so the following pics were taken the next day, which luckily was nice and sunny Bluebiggrin.

Nice job, that porn flick really lifted things up....the dirt I mean Bluebiggrin

It seems as though you enjoyed the tape so much you even did the tyre. Also were the small specs in the pics small surface rust spots? Would explain the dirty clay.

You missed a spot.
Kidding, from having seen the car before and after in real life, I can attest that it is now white. Not almost white anymore.

Thanks man...and that's the second tank from the passenger area, went through a whole other tank on the front area alone.

Its amazing how much in grained dirt accumulates in a car.

RE: The Silver Sabre and the detail of Awesomeness
Well done Sabre - quite a transformation.

The last time I saw clay that dirty is when I accidentally dropped a piece of clay on a very sandy driveway.

I know it's purely psychological, but I'm sure the care even feels like it drives better - well it always feels that way to me after I've detailed a car.

Thanks everyone.

@Woodie, yes indeed she feels like a whole new car Bluebiggrin, can't wait till I have enough to take her down to acciDent Guru and give her a proper spa treatment.

On the topic of clay, there were quite a bit of contaminants i could not lift with the clay I had. It is probably cos I just bought the CD Clay starter kit, which I think has 'fine' clay...

What clay should I get for the second round?
