Edge backing plates.... group buy?

Edit: anyone find any 4" pads that use the edge adapter?

As far as I remember they take your backing plate and modify it for like $30. Can't check now though as I am not in front of my pc.
Problem is that once its modified it will only accept edge pads.

Yep, includes modified BP so you can keep the original. Haven't seen any other 4" pad systems for the Flex though Iono

Did so browsing and found that in the USA the flex xc3401 vrg is around $270-290(R2450-2650). So why is it so much more here?

RE: Flex XC3401 VRG......Introductory offer *UPDATE*
Well, take the current exhange rate at the moment - R9.25 to the $.

So, $290 * R9.25 = R2682.5

R2682.5 * 14% VAT = R3058.05

R3058.05 * 20% duties = R3669.66

Now that would be the price without shipping is here, as well as probably being the lowest you could possibly get it. Bluebiggrin

RE: Flex XC3401 VRG......Introductory offer *UPDATE*
I think the MAIN point has been missed here! The US version is 110V ours is 220V and also has a higher input W rating.

Add the cost of a 10amp 110-220V transformer and see what you in for. Not to mention the size and weight of a transformer with a rating that high, its just going to be a plain PIA to lug around with you!

RE: Flex XC3401 VRG......Introductory offer *UPDATE*
I forgot about the VAT. The import duty maybe be a factor but the USA must also import it from Germany thus their price also have import duty on it.

RE: Flex XC3401 VRG......Introductory offer *UPDATE*
As with everything in the USA, the huge volumes count in their favour with regards to pricing as well as shipping.

I did the sums for the US version and a suitable step down transformer (220v-110V) is around R1500 minimum. Add to that no warranty or after sales support unless you ship it back to the USA and it's not worthwhile.

Shipping on a Flex is around $125 so add that to the $280 price on the Flex and it is $405.

$405 * R9.25 = R3746.00
R3756 * 14%VAT = R4270.00
R4270 * 20% Duty = R5125.00

Add the transformer and you over R6500 for a machine with no warranty and no support.

In the UK the Flex sells for around 230GBP * R16 = R3680 without shipping, VAT and duties and again no warranty.

In any event forget the stupid retail some of the places here in SA have it advertised for, you can pick one up brand new with warranty for under R5k Wink

I've imported many things from the US, detailing gear and other stuff. Quick formula is $ x 20 = R?

So that being said, the Flex was an awesome buy. Shipping is nearly always equal to the value of the goods your sending.

That formula is SOOO true! its shocking when you think you are buying stuff at great prices, and it arrives here and you work out what you ACTUALLY payed for it! Hammerhead

My rule of thumb is not to import anything with a warranty that might go wrong(side effect of mass production). I need to get me a part-time job, this detailing bug has got hold of me.

RE: Flex XC3401 VRG......Introductory offer *UPDATE*
just had a long chat with SARS office at the international post office at the airport ..
gave me a formular to work imports on from the usa

((Price of goods + 30% import duty) + 10% Local economy protection tax) ) + 14% VAT (all $ prices are calculated on exchange rate on the date of processing in SA)
seems importing from europe is less 23% or something like that. :-(
