Mobile-Image : Something Special (70+ pics)
This weekend saw my return to detailing having spent the past 2 months or so taking it easy while Grant was ill and after he left us. With a string of bookings to attend to I decided it was time to get underway again and braved the icy morning chills. This weekends booking was one I have been looking forward to ever since I was asked to pamper it....The reason for all the excitement you ask? Nothing other than a Porsche 993 Turbo S in guards red Drool

With the intro out of the way lets get onto the pics...

Initial Preperation

No befores and very little of the wash/clay stage as I wanted to get stuck in and my hands were frozen. Regardless to say the wheels were attended to by our usual goto rim cleaner, Sonax Extreme with various brushes, etc but it was hardly needed as the rims were pretty clean to start off with.

Very little purple run-off indicating the wheels were almost void of any brake dust.

Having attended to the wheels we set about washing the car with the usual 2BM, Sonax Gloss shampoo and a new wool wash mitt I am trying out. All the odds and ends were washed with a 5:1 APC solution agitated with a Megs Slide-Lock brush. This aided in removing various forms of caked on polish residue and other muck from around the emblems, door handles, etc.

Having been washed and rinsed the car was clayed with Meg's Fine clay and QD. The clay came up pretty clean apart from a few bonded contaminants, hence no photies of this step. After a final rinse the car was dried in preparation for taping prior to the correction phase.

Inspection

With the car properly cleaned the full condition of the paintwork could be accurately assessed. Generally the car was in an astoundingly good condition considering its age but the paintwork was showing clear signs of it's age as well as previous polishing work. Almost the entire car was covered by varying degrees of swirling and hologramming but thankfully very little in the way of serious RIDS and deeper defects.

With the initial inspection out in the sun completed I moved the car into the garage to begin taping and to take a closer look at the paint under the halogens.

Paint Correction

Having been around the entire car I proceeded to test various polishing combo's to see what would work best. First stop was Menzerna FA on a yellow 3M polishing pad. Considering the FA is a finishing polish it was little surprise that whilst it cleaned up the paint nicely, it didn't remove a sufficient amount of the swirling. Next up was a sample of Menz P203S which worked better but still wasn't up to the standard I was wanting to achieve. Finally I settled on a mix of FA and SIP worked via the rotary which achieved the desired result.

Having found a combo that was working I proceeded to complete the bonnet before moving back outside to check the work in the sunlight.

Being happy with the results I moved back inside and got stuck into completing the paint correction stage. Again I was pressed for time and wanted to get a move on so not many pics from the correction stage

With it getting dark and cold I decided to call it a night and returned on sunday to finish up. Sunday began with picking up where I left off on Sat evening and getting the paint correction phase completed. Along the way I fiddled with another polish sample I had which delivered some incredible results...More on that at a later stage Wink

Finishing off

With the correction work completed the vehicle was pulled back outside for a final inspection followed by a final wash and rinse, before being pulled back inside to be dried and for the final touched to be applied.

Tires were treated to Endurance Tyre Gel, exhausts got seen to with Sonax chrome and alu paste. Plastic and trim were treated to 303 Aerospace as usual.

LSP of choice today was a base layer of Chemical Guys Extreme Top Coat topped with Pete's 53 paste wax. Overall the Chemical Guys products delivered as usual but I'll let the pictures do the talking Bluebiggrin

Having spent the better part of nearly 2 complete days working on the Turbo S, I can honestly say I was sad to leave it behind. It is truly one of these most beautiful cars I have had the pleasure of working on.

Thanks for looking Wink
