Forum changes... - Carn - 26-11-2009 09:17 PM

Just a quick question for you all...

Are there any changes you guys would like to see to the Waxon forum for 2010?

I for one would like to consolidate some of the sections to make browsing a bit easier as well as get some monthly competitions on the go...

Spill the beans Bluebiggrin

Yes, my old complaint about having to move left and right all the time.

You guys promised to fix it and you never did. Nono

reduce size or donate larger screens

change theme colours more often

RE: Forum changes... - Starvekos - 26-11-2009 11:30 PM

Mods to delete all Teaser threads that are not updated with full write ups with 48 hours

RE: Forum changes... - calypso - 27-11-2009 06:50 AM

Starvekos to get banned for not posting any work in ages.
But then again, ill get banned with the same rule.

Springbok, what resolution you running again?

RE: Forum changes... - Lambchop - 27-11-2009 07:09 AM

I want a Button to view all the active threads and not threads by day or " View my threads"
Alot of things get missed got they not seen

I think that there are there are too many sections and subforums. Some sort of consolidation is required.

Are the "Sponsored" sections generating any income? If not, then ditch them and these product lines can be included/discussed under the "normal" sections. Alternatively the sponsorship could be in the form of product give aways to be used as competition prizes, or promotion codes for discounts on orders.

A regular "Show 'n Shine" competition based on details posted during the month (with a cool off period, i.e. if you win once you cannot win again for 3 months - to stop Dave from winning every month Bluebiggrin)

The trading post section could be consolidated into one "classifieds" sub-forum covering for sale, wanted, give-away, etc.

@ Springbok, please let me know what resolution you are running and I will ask Don to sort out the page width.

@ Dood, the colours can be changed but TBH I think it works as is. Anyone else suggesting we mix up the themes a bit?

@ Siya & Calypso Rofl

@ Nick, will have to look into the 'Active Topics' button but have you tried using the 'New Posts' one?

@ Sean. I agree re the multiple similar sub-sections, hence the suggestion to consolidate some of the info and reduce the clutter. The 'Sponsored' section are wasted space at the moment TBH, but that will hopefully be changing soon.

The monthly competition I had in mind is essentially what you have suggested Sean. I however will not be participating in them as I feel they are intended to entice the casual detailers to pull their fingers and get detailing more often Bluebiggrin

hey hey, I got tired of doing real work, so I spent most of my time in the office now Bluebiggrin

Hey Lambchomp, "view todays posts" is EXACTLY the same as view active topics on other forums.

Is that not limited to posts within the last 24 hours though Don?

I've always been under the impression that the "View New Posts" has some intelligent logic behind it and shows all unread posts since your last logon to the site. Am I mistaken?

RE: Forum changes... - Rich - 01-12-2009 08:28 AM

And a free product button... Bluebiggrin

Ok folks...I have sorted out the section and tidied up a bit. I also changed the forum width down to 800 again but had some problems with images that are wider than 800pixels still extending out past the sides.

Those of you with problems regarding the width, please PM me or let me know what resolution you are running on your monitors so I can try to solve the problems. In the mean time I have put the width back to 1024px until a workable solution can be found...Sorry

Regarding the active topics button. The only solution I have been able to find is a plug-in that needs to be paid for. I will keep on digging and see what we can find but in the mean time the Show New Posts button will show you all the threads and posts since your last visit Thumb

A full rundown of the changes is in this thread.
