Pepper white Mini Cooper - Starvekos - 21-12-2008 08:52 PM

I hooked up with GTI07 today, we planned to detail one of the family cars. So we braced the summer heat and started at 12h00 detailing a Pepper white Mini Cooper. It was a tag team detailing job which allowed us to finish at around 16h30, including a couple drinks breaks.

Wheels
  • My Wheel Brightener sprayer was playing up again. The spray head was clogged up and was not letting through any product. We reverted to the Sonax Xtreme full effect wheel cleaner.
  • Excess dirt was agitated with a wheel face brush, versa angle tyre brush, wheel spoke brush, synthetic wash mitt and a long handle wheel well brush
  • Mags sealed with CleanerWax liquid
  • Tyres dressed with Endurance High Gloss Tire Gel

Body wash
  • Sonax High Gloss shampoo, two bucket system using a microfiber wash mitt
  • Rinsed and dried with a Werkstat waffle weave towel and Adams Detailer spray as an aid

Preparation
  • M105 Ultra Cut compound, Sonax polishing using a Makita BO6040 dual action polisher
  • M81 Hand Polish by hand

Dressing
  • Windows cleaned with Glass Cleaner concentrate
  • Trim dressed with M40 Vinyl Cleaner and Conditioner
  • Rubber dressed with Hyper Dressing diluted 3:1
  • Soft top sealed with RaggTopp protectant aerosol spray

Protection
  • M21 Synthetic Sealant
  • Ultimate Quick Detailer

"My Wheel Brightener sprayer was playing up again. The spray head was clogged up and was not letting through any product. "

This seems to be a common problem that Wheel Brightner has on spray heads. I am on my second spray head.

This is the response I got from Woodie:

Quote:As far as the sprayer on the Wheel Brightner is concerned, I don't think it's clogging that's the problem. I tend to experience something akin to vapour lock on the sprayer head on my WB from time to time. When this happens, I remove the sprayer from the bottle, detach the suction tube, rinse everything with water, reassemble and then pump the sprayer a few times. Most times this solves the problem, but on the odd occasion I have to repeat the process to get it working properly.

The best advice I've received (but not always applied) regarding the sprayers is to rinse them after every detailing session. In this way you avoid the sprayer being stored with chemicals in the sprayer mechanism, which could lead to corrosion and component failure over time.

Siya, what do you mean by this?

RE: Pepper white Mini Cooper - Starvekos - 22-12-2008 07:59 PM

Thanks for picking that up. I forgot my paint cleaner / polishes at home (M83 Dual Action Cleaner polish or M80 Speed Glaze or Menzerna Super Intensive Polish) so I had to push on with a compound (M105 Ultra Cut) on an orange Sonax polishing pad.

Well done Siya & GTI07! Coopers always look awesome when the black bits are actually black. My ex had a Chilli Red Cooper with white stripes. The offset of the white & black bits when clean and looked after looked great.

Bluebiggrin Thanks for sharing.

You couldn't have picked a more enthusiastic detailer than Siya Wink
