Poor-Boys --- Rare 2.0T Quattro A4 - freerider - 21-09-2008 07:23 PM

I know I said we where doing a Daytona Violet e36 M3 this Sunday, but plans changed somewhat and we ended up doing and Audi A4 2.0T Quattro apparently 1 of only 3 in SA?

This car looked pretty good when we first started with it, but as we cleaned we started to see the swirls and RDS's, and boy where there loads of them ALL over.

This car is only 4 months old and the owner says that it was delivered with the swirls and a very nice scratch on the boot, some of the regulars here know who did the pre delivery detail on this car....... Uhoh2

Some pre wash pics:

Again I washed while Megesh tackled the wheels.... and yes, we had a photographer Bluebiggrin

dirty rinse bucket again Throwup

After the wash, we got straight to drying with the Adams Waffle Weave Drying Towels

As you can see from this pic..... its easy to take photo's of a car with loads of swirls and make it look good, I suppose the swirl removal ability of the Shield orbital is at question here Rofl

Now for some swirls.....

After Claying and taping it was time to start the task of correcting those swirls, a much easier job with the help of the Flex

I thought I would tape off a section of the bootlid and do a 50/50

result after 1 go with a light cutting pad and Menzerna SIP

Megesh then took over with the Flex, and I hit all the small areas like:

Mirrors

before:

Working

Putting in some serious concentration Bluebiggrin

and then the after pics

The B pillar was also very badly swirled, only took after pics though

Number plates de-swirled

and bumpers

Just so you know who we are Clap

And finally, we topped off with Chemical Guys - Extreme Top Coat Paint Sealant with Carnuaba

Excellent work. Every flex post gets me more excited. But i like what you say about making a swirled car look good, its the truth.
Also any news on the Vikan wheel brushes? I see your still using the old Megs. Im sure you can do much better then that.
Of btw, why is this thing so rare? Just looks like a regular Audi to me.

hehe, the Vikan wheel brushes are available man, Megesh used it last weekend on the Blue M3. Its just slightly shorter than the Megs one, so Megesh was using that for the longer reach to the back of the rims.
We have a HUGE selection of cleaning brushes now, we cant use them all for every detail Bluebiggrin

Its so rare, because its a 2ltr Quattro.

IMHO, this is your best correction work to date. Ok, maybe not seeing that you have been working on silver since Poor-Boys was established.

The brothers in the reflection shot seem to be happy with the results.

RE: Poor-Boys --- Rare 2.0T Quattro A4 - Woodie - 22-09-2008 07:23 AM

Well done guys - nothing like a black car to display how you two have honed your technique.

One comment though - Megesh, you need to lose your pants bro. No, I'm not asking you to do a strip show, but the zips in those pockets would freak me out. They are at just the right height to instil some nice RDS as you accidently brush against the car whilst working on the roof New_shocked

Fantastic work Poor-Boys, that black paint looks flawless and I am certain the owner was highly impressed with the outcome Thumbsup2

I look forward to hearing and/or reading more on your guys thoughts regarding the Flex Wink

Very, very nice work.

Must agree with Woodie on the pants. You have to be so carefull to not put back in what you take out.

Well done Team PB. Bluebiggrin Fantastic correction and good on the top notch concentration Don. Tongue The more I keep reading everyone's details, the keener I become on getting myself up and running!

My recommendation would be to get hold of a scrap panel, preferably a bonnet (nice and big) and learn on that.

with regard to your machine polisher, be very careful and try and research whether other people are using the same thing for detailing as well.

I highly doubt you will have much effect on swirls like that by hand applied polish alone

Question is what kinda rpm does it produce. When i think about air tools i always assume huge rpm.

Generally, you are never going to need to go any faster than 2000rpm on a rotary. anything higher and you are going to be hologramming and stripping paint off cars Bluebiggrin

RE: Poor-Boys --- Rare 2.0T Quattro A4 - calypso - 24-09-2008 10:43 AM

20 000?
OK what is the slowest speed?

only a pleasure man!

If we lived in a perfect scientific world then yes, your car would definitely be going faster due to a lower drag coefficient Rofl

Great results guys. From far off the paint looked good until you showed the close up swirl shots. But the after shots really showed what a difference a professional detail can make.

@Don

Nice job PB`s, love the results of the correction work done - can you maybe give a run down of process / products please. I have a similar colour Audi with similar defects !! . Thanks.

The products used where mostly all teh same as other details we have done listed on the site Bluebiggrin

Products used during correction phase:

Flex (larger flat panels)
Makita BO6040 (mirrors A B C pillars, bumpers, back of bootlid etc)
Lake Country Light Cutting pads (orange)
Menzerna Super Intensive Polish (PO85RD 3.02)
Distilled water (pad primer and lubricant)
Adams Microfiber Polishing Cloths.

I dont really hold an opinion of the G220, The Makita is very good, and has served me well over the last 8 months and is still going strong.

The flex is on a new level for us, it is slightly more of a bastid to work with because of the direct drive system (likes to munch pads if you go over something raised) you have to be more aware of what you are doing with it,

The makita on the other hand has the option of switching between direct drive or normal DA, I have always used mine in normal mode and get very good results with it, the only thing that the flex has 1 up on the Makita is when it comes to time consumed doing the same job!

The flex is with no doubt a quicker correcticus Bluebiggrin and when you are in the detailing business, time = money!
