Merc C200k - sash - 05-08-2008 10:33 AM

Unfortunately i did not take any before pics.., i think i was a bit too eager to start. Its my old mans car, and after 7 years it wasn't that bad with regard to swirls, but alot of dirt on the paint and some minor scratches.

At the moment i have meguairs products, but thats mainly cos its all i can get my hands on. And until its finished i will continue to do so. I will use my knowledge gained from forums like these to purchase thereafter.

Wasn't a complete detail so to speak but involved washing, claying, polishing and waxing. Tried to clean the leather as much as possible, and even the carpets( this car has a light grey interior, including carpets)

I am not a fan of this model(pre-facelift) but when i saw it in the flesh....my jaw dropped, no scratches, dents nothing. Back seats were hardly sat on, if at all. But then 18 months later, with a few trips to Newcastle and my niece in the back seat....Hence the clean-up became urgent.

Unfortunately i am not able to afford a DA or PC just yet, so all my work is done by hand...

Well, very well done for a job done by hand.Clap

Looking at the pics one would swear that it had been machine polished. The paintwork looks in excellent condition.

It always helps on a forum like this to give details of what products you used, especially the polish and wax.

Nice work Sash. Defenately gave the merc back some depth and gloss. Nice job on the wheels. What you use on them?

RE: Merc C200k - sash - 06-08-2008 09:58 AM

Thanks guys...

Frankly.., i'm a bit embarassed to say what i used considering some of the brands used on this forum....

Any way, pride aside..hehe...
I rinsed off the car to remove any excess dirt, then used the two bucket method (works great).
After washing (mequiars softwash gel)the car i decided to tackle the wheels and wheel wells(have no clue why i only think of the wheels after washing the car, always happens)
I used the meguiars clay bar with the quick detailer to get all the unwanted dirt off.
After a nice buff by hand, i used meguiars cleaner wax thereafter, followed by nxt wax.

Everything was applied using mequiars foam pads and MF cloths.
To clean the wheels and wells i actually used clean green with a handbrush. The finer details on the rims were cleaned using diamond guard(oops...but it worked). I prefer using wynns black back on all black parts like tyres, mudflaps etc.

The engine bay was given a wipe down as it was just a bit dusty.

Never be embarassed if you are doing it yourself Bluebiggrin and there is nothing wrong with the products you used Bluebiggrin

RE: Merc C200k - sash - 06-08-2008 01:13 PM

Thanks Don,

Its only a matter of time before i will get there. I am looking for a place with reasonable prices and good products. Alas, they are few and far between...

RE: Merc C200k - Carn - 06-08-2008 06:07 PM

You really have nothing at all to be embarassed about, there are no right or wrong products as far as detailing goes Wink

RE: Merc C200k - megesh - 07-08-2008 08:33 AM

you got awesome results using the products you did!!!

And that is all that matters at the end of the day Wink

RE: Merc C200k - springbok - 07-08-2008 09:21 AM

I fully agree.

Don't let yourself get too hung up on products. There will always be another "flavour of the month" out there and you will drive yourself mad, as well as bankrupt, constantly buying every every product available. it's more about technique and attention to detail.

The main thing is HAVE FUN Bluebiggrin

RE: Merc C200k - sash - 11-08-2008 02:13 PM

I agree with the above statements. The feeling of staring at a completely detailed car is difficult to put into words.
