Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Vincent - 21-07-2010 09:22 AM

I was asked to go shine up a Rally car for the coming weekends Nationals in PE.

What an aswome experience to get to see one of these incredible machines up close and personal. And also to have an in depth chat to the chief mechanic about the workings of this 380kw 500bhp car.

Unreal

Now that is my cup of tea Drool

(I am also a National Rally Competitor and I know Mike Nathan - he used to run a Polo sponsored by Teazers :roflBluebiggrin

Great work on getting a rally car shining like that - I know how scratched that paint work must have been!

Do you offer a mobile service to these guys and can you tell me where that workshop is?

I recently moved from JHB to Cape Town and I would like to get into the regional rally scene here!

Cheers,
Paul

Hey PaulVW... I know 2 of the Rally Drivers, Mike and Thorsten,

Mike has a Dealership on Voortrekker Road in Goodwood.
He also competes in the Regional racing in a Toyota.
His workshop for the rally cars is in Killarney in Racing Park

You can mail Mark Palmer at mlp@iafrica.com

I am mobile yes so most of my work is done at the clients place of preference which 90% of the time is at their home.

Thanks for the feedback Vincent!

I have met Mark Palmer before when I had to collect my route notes for the Sasol rally from him, but that was my 1st week in CPT, so I was still very "disorientated" Bluebiggrin

Anyways, great work again.

I admire the number of details you seem to get done in a short time frame. I just visited the other forum and you are the author of 90% of the threads there.

Do you have any helpers when you do details or is it just you?

RE: Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Vincent - 21-07-2010 11:07 AM

I do all my details alone. I enjoy it more that way. I had a friend helping me at some stage but then soon realised that I ended up going over his work anyway. So was pointless.

I have done so many details in the last year that I have lost count on how many cars I have done.
I cannot remember a weekend that I did not do at least 1 car. and almost 90% of the time I do 2 cars a weekend.

and 90% of my details I get are all word of mouth and referrals.

My next aim though is to try shift my target market to the more executive income group.
Try get those Audi A5's and AMG Mercs and M5's etc.

This coming weekend I have a White Jaguar... thats gonna be a good one

Great stuff man!

In JHB I taught my garden man to help me with taking off wheels, cleaning them and doing the trim on the lower sills, but I guess it is still best to DIY everything.

BTW - this N4 EVO must count as one of the most expensive cars on your list!

I estimate R1.5m in the current state, R2m when new. Class S2000 rally cars (with which it should compete) are costing >R3m (Crazy)

RE: Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Vincent - 21-07-2010 11:59 AM

The Estimate value spent on this Evo stands at 2.5 mil
The entire under carriage is covered in Carbon Kevlar
The Suspension is 160k alone
The gearbox is a specially put together box with straight cut gears
So this machine is a very special and super fast one

Geez - even more than I thought. I remember that car was brought in by Fernando Rueda (also from Cape Town) but I guess Mike Nathan basicallt rebuilt it.

Yeah, suspension on a rally car is the most important part, but very expensive. I have a quote of R90k (excl import) for a set of Reigers for my Citi Golf!

RE: Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Torres1 - 21-07-2010 03:09 PM

If i may ask gents, how much do you charge for the full detail?

RE: Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Carn - 21-07-2010 06:25 PM

Cool car...Pity it will be filthy come the weekend again Hammerhead

RE: Rally Mitsubishi Evo - Vincent - 22-07-2010 08:01 AM

Hopefully with the 2 layers of CG Extreme Top Coat Sealant i put on the car it will be easier for the crew to clean after each stage.

I hope you have told them to use a 3 bucket system! Rofl
