The forgotten AM thread... - Carn - 08-05-2010 03:04 PM Hey guys, been a while since I posted some of my work. It's been crazy at the office which combined with overhauling my website for the online shop means I haven't had time to put up any threads in a while Anyways, this is an old one but due to privacy concerns the owner asked that I not post it online straight away. I actually nearly forgot about it and only remembered whilst going through some photies for the new site. This vehicle belongs to a regular client of mine and was the 1st customer spec V12 Vantage in the country This particular job was only a front end prep in preparation for a VPS film install. The rest of the car will be attended to at some point in time Righty then, 1st up I calipbrated my PTG and took a few readings Having a PTG gives you a whole lot more confidence knowing how healthy the paint is before starting starting the correction work. The readings were all over the 200um mark which was healthy. Perfect! Next I tried to capture some of the defects from the front end. Due to the metallic/pearl white colour it was extremely difficult but I managed a few decent pics. Haziness in the paint and some fine swirling Overall the paint wasn't in bad condition, but I was surprised to see a vehicle of this value delivered from the factory with such poor paintwork After testing a few combo's I settled on 1 hit with SIP followed by 106FA for most of the front end. Some of the poorer areas with some pigtails and sanding marks got 1 hit of FCP followed by SIP and finally FA. I took a few PTG readings after, most showing only 2 to 3 um of clear coat removal. And some finished pics... Clarity restored to the paintwork And a few random ones to finish off... Thanks for looking RE: The forgotten AM thread... - dood786 - 08-05-2010 03:25 PM RE: The forgotten AM thread... - calypso - 08-05-2010 04:05 PM Oeff, its yummy. Nc job Carn RE: The forgotten AM thread... - springbok - 08-05-2010 09:50 PM Such beautiful paint and he wants to put VPS on. Shame. RE: The forgotten AM thread... - meguiarver - 09-05-2010 12:36 PM forgive me for being dumb but what is the benefit of the vps RE: The forgotten AM thread... - dood786 - 09-05-2010 01:31 PM Vps is a clear sticker film that protects the paint from stone chips RE: The forgotten AM thread... - Jughead - 09-05-2010 03:48 PM Awesome !!! RE: The forgotten AM thread... - AMD001 - 09-05-2010 10:14 PM Excellent work as usual Dave. RE: The forgotten AM thread... - PaulVW - 10-05-2010 07:16 AM Awesome work as always. Well done David. It must be exiting working on these top-end cars. PS. Can you perhaps tell me where I can look for such a PTG device? RE: The forgotten AM thread... - Kido - 10-05-2010 07:29 AM I can't see the picks today I think work is stripping them out but I'm sure this does look good !!! RE: The forgotten AM thread... - Wells - 10-05-2010 09:36 AM Thia is an awesome car and a awesome end result, pity it is going to be spoilt with VPS. He should not need VPS, with that kind of power, he should always be in front!!!! RE: The forgotten AM thread... - onyx - 10-05-2010 10:50 AM Yummy.... Do you still get a lil nervous when doing these kinda cars David?! To VPS or not to VPS? To re-spray your Aston Martin (and no doubt negatively affect its value) or VPS... i say the latter RE: The forgotten AM thread... - Carn - 10-05-2010 06:35 PM Thanks guys, much appreciated as always I too detest the VPS films. If done properly they can be ok but in general the local offerings have always failed to impress me. I can understand why the owner wants the film though, especially with the conditions of our roads of late @ PaulVW, I import and distribute the Paint Detective PTG's which include the PD8 and newer PD7 gauges. The one I use is the PD7 which offers calibration functions as well as a 10 reading memory. You can read a bit more about the PD7 in my review here. @ Onyx. Not as much as I used to TBH, especially since I started using a PTG. In the beginning we were quite nervous but having spent more and more time working on these types of cars you become more used to it |
